BIO

t l k is an independent producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and collaborator based in Bristol (UK). t l k's distinctively ethereal sound has emerged equally from their most introverted moments as it has Bristol's vibrant and genre-evading live improvisation scene. Blending intricate vocal layers, analogue synthesis, rhythmic textures and field recordings, t l k creates immersive landscapes to better understand the worlds in which we swim.

Strength In Tenderness EP (2022) forms t l k’s first extended portfolio, introducing their sound palette, experimental production and thematic influences to attentive ears. For t l k, developing the EP has underlined the necessary nature of music making as a medium for psychological processing, carving space for deeper understandings of trauma, loss and selfhood to evolve. Strength In Tenderness has been showcased on BBC Introducing, Jazz FM, SWU.FM, Soho and Noods Radio, as well as by tastemakers in Hamburg, Lisbon, and on Lithuanian national radio.

LIVE

t l k’s ethereal sound world and vocal vulnerability have allowed them to be recognised as a strong emerging force in the 'Bristol Jazz' scene.

t l k introduced their band to the live space in 2021 (James Storm Otieno - bass, sax; and Liam Twohig - drums). Within its first year, the live project has moved fervently through residencies at Snape Maltings, Factory Studios and The Gallimaufry, gigging extensively across Bristol's most acclaimed venues, as well as across the UK (London, Newcastle, Sheffield, Stroud, Suffolk). They have supported the likes of Tusks (One Little Independent), Anchorsong (Tru Thoughts) and Waldo's Gift (Black Acre), to name a few.

They are as much at home playing iconic arts spaces like Snape Maltings, Sage Gateshead and St George's as they are in independent experimental jam spaces, intimate living rooms and festival stages. Prioritising transient improvisation among meticulous detail, the t l k live experience honours the organic and unrepeatable nature of live sound, formed by the interaction of multiplicitous human beings.

The t l k Band has a monthly residency in place at renowned Bristol melting pot, The Gallimaufry. In this experimental playground, improvisation and reimagining are at the forefront of the t l k agenda, where they continue to collaborate with friends from some of Bristol's most exciting, boundary-pushing projects (Waldo's Gift, Snazzback, Grove, STANLÆY, Biped) and reimagine the music of influential artists (James Blake, Submotion Orchestra).

Moving into the latter half of this year, t l k looks towards recording and wrapping new releases for 2023.
