Future Bubblers 2023-4

Britten Pears Young Artists 'VOICEBOX' 2023-4

t l k is a Bristol-based artist, vocalist and producer. Their practice centres the voice-as-instrument, in live, recorded (Ableton) and hybrid contexts, with palettes formed from found rhythms, analog synths and vocal layers. Their roots are in choral polyphony, blended with soundscape composition, electronics and audio collage. At the core is a deep commitment to the act of noticing and iterating.

Fluid in genre and form, with a leaning towards cinematic ambient, downtempo electronic, skewed pop, neo-classical and musique concrète sensibilities, their works evolve from memory, dialogue, dreams and ongoing explorations into loss, selfhood, human behaviour and its coalescence and tensions with the non-human.

EPs 'Primed For Loss' (2023) and 'Strength In Tenderness' (2022) introduced t l k's distinct palette, ethereal live presence and, most notably, a voice of tactile sensitivity to the UK and beyond, offering something gently assertive, ever-evolving and "truly transportive" (BBC6 Music).

Recent live performances include the Barbican, Southbank Centre, the ICA, Jazz Cafe, Brighton Festival, Glastonbury and FORWARDS Festival (opening for Aphex Twin), as well as a UK tour in promotion of sophomore EP 'Primed For Loss'. EU shows include opening slots for Nabihah Iqbal (Ninja Tune) on the Scandinavian leg of her Nov 2023 EU tour, and a recent showcase performance of interdisciplinary, sound-oriented works at 90mil, on residency with Dwam Berlin.

They are part of VOICEBOX, a cohort of 6 international 'new music' singers, led by Juliet Fraser. Adjacent, ongoing explorations include collective vocalisation and grief practice, extended vocal techniques, the disembodied voice and composing for voice and dance in spatial audio contexts.

t l k is currently working on their debut album, with much appreciated support from PRS Foundation.
